FEBC was founded nearly 80 years ago with an emphasis on using the radio to reach the unreached. But as technology rapidly evolves, so do our solutions. FEBC stations worldwide are expanding their methods to meet people where they are — in their language and on the devices they use most.
With more than 5.4 billion users, social media is a strategic modern tool for fulfilling the Great Commission. There’s even more potential for social media to reach Gen Z with the Gospel. Approximately 98% of Gen Z (those aged 18–24) use at least one social media platform regularly, with YouTube and TikTok being the most popular.
A new generation requires new solutions sharing the same message: Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
Social Media is Reaching Gen Z in Indonesia
Indonesia ranks in the top five countries for the most social media users, with more than 143 million people. The average Indonesian is spending more than three hours per day on social media, making it one of the most formative practices in a person’s life.
FEBC Indonesia recognizes the potential social media has to transform the next generation. Through their program that translates to “I Love to Follow Christ,” FEBC Indonesia offers in-person courses that help people use their talents and passions for evangelism. These trainings cover music, art, broadcasting, and public speaking. But one of the most popular courses with young people across Indonesia is social media training.
Earlier this year, FEBC Indonesia trained 12 young people in Bali on becoming digital missionaries, with a few of the participants being new Believers. Ellen is a new follower of Jesus, and when she met other young people passionate about leveraging their social media for the Gospel, she found a community of belonging. “I wish for others to experience God’s love as I have,” she says.
Led by the social media lead at FEBC Indonesia, Fuad Sari, the training gives Gen Z Christians strategies and tools to create Christ-centered digital content. Participants learn how to ideate, produce a video, and distribute it online. This next-generation initiative empowers young people to meet their peers where they are, with the hope of Jesus.
“This training is exceptional, as the Good News must be [shared with] all individuals without exception,” says Arif Nur Atmojo, Director of the Indonesian Student Ministry Institution in Bandar Lampung. “Through this training, I hope young people can recognize that when they [create] a status or social media content, there exists a mission to disseminate the Gospel to all, particularly their generation.”
The initial training was so well-received that FEBC Indonesia is now offering the program throughout the country, already hosting sessions in Lampung, Samarinda, East Borneo, and more.
“Initially, I was unaware,” says J. Sargih in Lampung. “But through FEBC Indonesia, I have come to understand that I am capable and equipped to proclaim the Good News through my social media account.”
Because of your partnership and support, FEBC is able to continue sharing the Gospel with people who are desperate for hope – Thank you!
