When Gina’s husband was doing laundry outside their home in the Philippines, he heard something unusual. “Go, listen to this,” he told her. Gina walked outside and heard Scripture playing from her neighbor’s radio.
“I didn’t know anything about the Word of God,” she says. “I had no knowledge of [the Bible].” But Gina heard this in a time of desperation. The 53-year-old mom and market vendor was struggling with depression. “I felt like I just wanted to die,” she shares. “I just wanted to lock myself away. I didn’t want to see anyone, even my friends. I couldn’t talk to anyone.”
Everything started to change that day.
The Verses That Touched Gina’s Heart
Once Gina heard from her yard, she bought a radio for her family and started listening to FEBC Philippines from 5 am to 9 pm every day.
Gina started memorizing Scripture, even quoting Jeremiah 29:11 and Romans 8:28 in English to our local team. “I was holding onto that hope,” she told us. Her depression started to shrink as she trusted the Lord and treasured His Word in her heart.
Her faith was challenged during the pandemic, when the landlord unexpectedly forced her family out of their home. But she trusted the Lord and saw Him provide through her community. Gina’s family and friends helped her build a new house.
“Whatever your plans are, whatever desires are in your heart, the Lord will provide, as long as you obey Him, stay faithful to Him,” Gina says.
Putting Her Full Trust in the Lord
Gina saw the Lord continue to provide when it came to her business. She had a small booth in a market that didn’t get as much foot traffic as other locations. But she entered a lottery with the government for a chance to win a prime location and a larger booth.
On the day of the lottery, the spokesperson running the event said, “If anyone here has a charm or amulet, take it out now so that you can win the jackpot.” Gina said, “We don’t need charms. All we need is for the Lord to take care of us.” And He did. Gina won the lottery and is now the owner of one of the most expensive properties in her local market.
Today, Gina is making the most of her market by thinking about more than just her business. She enjoys sharing with customers about how hearing the Word of God has transformed her life, even giving away FEBC radios. “I want them to feel the same way, to experience what I’ve experienced,” she says.
Because of your partnership and support, FEBC is able to continue sharing the Gospel with people who are desperate for hope – Thank you!
