Urgent Prayer for Malawi and Mozambique

Devastating cell phone videos sent from our team in Malawi and Mozambique show the catastrophic damage Cyclone Freddy has caused in southern Africa. The storm brought severe flooding which resulted in many casualties and extensive damage to local infrastructure.

Amos Siyabu, Director of FEBC’s ministry in Malawi, reports that hundreds have been killed, with countless others injured. Thousands of others have had their homes completely destroyed or washed away—including the home of one of FEBC Malawi’s volunteers.

Jurie Vermeulen, National Director of FEBA South Africa, shared, “One of our stations in central Mozambique, “Radio Impact” in Quelimane, Zambezia province was very badly damaged and is off-air. We are still busy assessing the damage and the most effective ways to assist. We appreciate your prayers for our staff, radio equipment, and every person affected. [Our staff] are traveling extensively, doing the best they can at providing assistance to those who have lost everything.”

May 8th Update:

As recovery efforts continue, Amos Siyabu shares the incredible stories of people coming to faith in Christ in the midst of this tragedy.

Updates on FEBC’s Stations in Malawi and Mozambique:

FEBC Malawi’s station (Litala FM) is located in the city of Blantyre and was not damaged due to the storm. However, cyclone Freddy caused, and is still causing, challenges for the station due to power outage blackouts. This should be improved soon, when new solar panels will be installed, which will provide enough energy for the FEBC Malawi team to broadcast 24/7 at the tower site.

FEBC Mozambique had 6 active stations before the storm—2 of which were damaged during the cyclone. Both are now provisionally back on the air, but one of them needs significant repairs in the long-term.

Please join us in lifting up the people of Malawi and Mozambique.

  5. Holy Father, Please be with these brothers and sisters as devastation has overtaken their communities. So so many have lost family members and friends. Comfort them as only You can. May each heart and soul be touched by Your Holy Presence. May Your Holy Spirit give each person the strength to make it from one day to the next. Lord, it will be so overwhelming to try to make sense of this and to try to live one day to the next. Please give Your Peace to each person there so that Your Inner Peace will allow each survivor to be there for each other. In Jesus Name, Amen
