While our broadcasts are the first step in reaching communities in hard-to-reach places, they can’t serve as our only strategy to show the love of Jesus. We believe lasting transformation happens when we are close to the listener. When possible, our local teams move beyond the broadcast studio to visit the very communities they speak to every day.
The FEBC Cambodia team recently traveled to Kep, in southern Cambodia, to honor the dedication of one of their most faithful listeners, ‘Auntie’ Oeu Chhorn.
From Buddhist to Believer
Auntie Oeu grew up in a Buddhist family, but her heart softened to the Gospel when her husband passed away. Once she became a Christian, she then spent time in the United States. Eventually, she felt called to return to Cambodia and bring the Good News to her own people.
As a widow and mother of three, Auntie Oeu faced trials that only strengthened her faith. She persevered and pointed others to Christ, seeing all three of her children come to know Jesus.
In the village of Kep, Cambodia, Auntie Oeu was known as a gentle spirit with a hunger for God’s Word. For years, Auntie Oeu tuned her radio to FEBC every morning. Staff periodically visited her to check in and offer encouragement. Through all the challenges that come with aging, nothing could keep her from studying the Word of God. Even in her later years, Scripture became her daily strength.
Honoring Auntie Oeu
When FEBC Cambodia heard Auntie Oeu had completed their entire Bible Correspondence Course, our local team planned a trip to give her a small diploma of recognition, which they do for all listeners who finish the program. But God had other plans.
By the time FEBC team members arrived in her hometown, her family and neighbors shared that Auntie Oeu had recently passed away. Stories from her community made it clear that she had fought the good fight and finished the race.
“The diploma was only a symbol,” one FEBC team member shared. “Her unwavering faith was the real treasure.”
Auntie Oeu’s deepest desire was to walk closely with Jesus. Her passion for Scripture reminds us that following Him is never about recognition, but about knowing Him more and preparing our hearts for eternity.
Though she is no longer with us on this side of Heaven, Auntie Oeu’s life continues to inspire others to pursue God’s Word with the same faithfulness.
Because of your partnership and support, FEBC is able to continue sharing the Gospel with people who are desperate for hope – Thank you!
