In the heart of the most dangerous island in Indonesia for Christians, FEBC staff are boldly sharing the hope of Jesus. Aceh is a region of Indonesia in the northern part of the island of Sumatra. Aceh is governed by sharia law, a Muslim system of governance which makes religious expression of any kind besides Islam very dangerous, and legally punishable. Christians in Aceh face significant hardships including social pressure from families and friends, and restrictions on evangelism.
A Movement of Hope
Despite the difficulties, a new program titled “Christians in the Land of Sharia” was recently launched, and features the real-life journeys of Christians living in Aceh. The new program airs once a month and shares testimonies of fortitude, joy, and unwavering faith. Listeners can also engage directly by sending testimonies, feedback, or questions to our broadcasters via WhatsApp (an international text messaging service).
A Growing Light in Aceh
Feedback from FEBC listeners has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have felt encouraged, equipped, and inspired to keep sharing Christ’s love with those around them, despite the obstacles.
In the face of legal and cultural barriers, the Christian community in Aceh is growing—Praise God! Christian leaders and believers are rising up to be a light in the darkness, sharing the love of Christ with wisdom, faith, and boldness.
