 CLOSE TO 30,000 PEOPLE STREAMED INTO an open-air stadium for 5 nights to attend the Mongol Festival in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia last August. While attendance at this level is typical for U.S. crusades, it’s remarkable for a country governed by Communists until 1990, when atheism controlled the hearts of the people. But the past sixteen years has brought a change to this nation of 2.4 million people, and it’s clearly God’s handiwork.
The Mongol Festival was designed to share the message of Christ with the people of Mongolia’s capital city. In addition to the thousands of guests, church bands, pastors, and counselors flocked to Ulaanbaatar Palace, where Peter Youngren, a visiting pastor from Canada and his team led five nights of praise and teaching. But the real guest of honor was Jesus.
Miraculous Healings
One young woman, totally blind since a road accident 18 months ago, received her sight back. A man deaf since birth heard Jesus’ name among the first sounds of his life. In between sobs he was able to repeat "Yesus" and "Allelujah!" One elderly man was so thrilled to be healed from a debilitating stroke that he wouldn’t return the microphone. Instead, he kept shouting his testimony while dancing across the stage.
After four nights of teaching, worship and answered prayer, the crowds were reluctant to leave the last evening. Over a thousand stayed for an impromptu extra hour of praise, worship, and proclaiming “Jesus is King of Mongolia!"
FEBC Multiplies Festival's ImpactWIND-FM, FEBC-Mongolia’s local station, recorded the events of each day of the outreach. They aired festival highlights on a regularly scheduled evening broadcast and worked long into the night to edit the material into 30-minute features aired the next day. As a result, people throughout Mongolia heard Jesus’ name and first-hand testimonies of people healed.
During this same week, both an Indian mystic and the Dalai Lama visited Mongolia. Despite government support for both of these speakers, the people of Mongolia were most anxious to hear about Jesus, and they were not disappointed.
