Inmate Transformed through Broadcasts

30 YEARS AGO, A FILIPINO INMATE named Bill was given a portable radio during his early days in jail. Since it was pre-tuned to FEBC, Bill listened to the ministry’s broadcasts while sitting in his prison cell. The Bible stories, Christian songs, and messages of love and redemption so touched his heart, he eventually decided to put his faith in the Lord!

Faith Expressed Through Music

bill Like many Filipinos, Bill loves music. In particular, he likes writing song lyrics. When he heard about a songwriting contest sponsored by FEBC's AM station, Bill was eager to enter…even though he was still in prison.

Bill’s song was truly touching…and was chosen from hundreds of entries to be sung at the Papuri Song Festival, which was a part of FEBC-Philippines 58th anniversary celebration. Papuri, the music ministry of FEBC, produced Bill's song and made arrangements with prison officials for him to sing it at this special event.

So on June 3 of this year, Bill entered the concert hall accompanied by four prison guards who remained at his side throughout the night. When it was his turn to perform, he strode up to the stage in his orange prison uniform and sang of his new life in Christ.

Hundreds of people, spellbound by the song, gave Bill a standing ovation as he left the stage. His heartfelt song was the highlight of the evening!

Blessing Others

Recently released from prison, Bill has been singing for the Lord…often performing in Christian concerts throughout the Philippines and around the world. "I’ve been free since that day I gave my heart to the Lord so many years ago," Bill said recently, "and now I want to share my spiritual freedom with others since I’m no longer in prison."

And to think it all started when someone gave him a radio pre-tuned to FEBC 30 years ago!

"It’s so encouraging to see how God uses the power of each broadcast to radically transform lives," said Gregg Harris, president of FEBC. "And we’re thankful for many friends who are helping continue this legacy through their gifts and prayers."
