Connected at Birth to FEBC

Eduardo (Eddie) Lo, the brand new Executive Director of Chinese Ministries, U.S.A., was born in Manila in 1946, the same year FEBC-Philippines was incorporated. As a child in school, Eddie remembers seeing Dr. Bowman’s picture on the wall. “I was impressed by the heroic story of how he started FEBC,” Eddie recently explained. Years later, even after he graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) in 1970 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he felt a strong connection to FEBC.

“My mother used to help in radio programming at the Manila studio,” Eddie explained, “and my wife and I occasionally took part in programming as well.” Years later, Eddie became a Board Member of FEBC-Philippines.

After graduating from M.I.T., Eddie began a career in electronics, eventually co-founding the Dai-ichi Group of Companies that manufacture consumer electronics. With offices around the world, Eddie and his partner were responsible for over 2000 employees.

“In my frequent visits to China to set up factories, I came across scores of lost souls in the business world, “ he recently explained. “That experience sowed a seed in my heart to spread the Good News through FEBC.” In 1985 Eddie and his family (wife Carol, sons Ryan, Dexter, Stanley, and daughter Elizabeth) moved to California where Eddie helped found the Philippine Chinese Evangelical Church of Southern California, located in Pasadena.

With the demands of his business mounting, Eddie decided to take an early retirement in 1996 in order to spend time with his family and serve God in a more direct way. Initially, he volunteered at FEBC-Chinese Ministries, working wherever he was needed.

Then in 1998, Eddie began graduate work at Talbot School of Theology with plans to eventually pastor a church. When he completed his Master of Divinity degree, he immediately began work on a Master of Theology in Bible Exposition, graduating in 2004. Less than 2 months later, while Eddie was awaiting word from several churches who had interviewed him for a pastoral position, Carlos Pena, Executive Director of the FEBC International Office, and Bob Stiles, Assistant to the President of FEBC, approached him.

“We have an alternative plan to suggest,” Bob said to Eddie. “With your long history at FEBC, why not join us as the Executive Director of Chinese Ministries?” After much prayer and soul searching, Eddie said yes. No one was more delighted with Eddie’s decision than FEBC President Gregg Harris who recently shared these comments, “From the moment I met Eddie, I sensed his humility and deep commitment to Jesus Christ. I believe he is God’s choice to lead the Chinese Ministries. I am grateful God brought Eddie to FEBC to provide leadership to our vital ministry in China.”

When Eddie officially joined the staff on October 1 he had this to say: “With God’s help and guidance, I am seeking to serve the godly and able staff at FEBC…in order to bring the Good News to the huge number of lost souls in China.”

Born in Manila the same year that FEBC-Philippines was founded…admiring Dr. Bowman as a young boy…working as a volunteer for FEBC both in the Philippines and U.S…and now serving in a leadership position with FEBC has certainly brought Eddie Lo full circle. We’re thrilled to have him part of the team!
