| THE AMOGS FIRMLY BELIEVE there are no coincidences. And
their lives are a testament to the
beauty of God’s sovereign plans.
“Cecil and I met when we were
in college in the Philippines,” Mar
shared, “but after graduation, we
went our separate ways. I moved to
Samar, an island in central Philippines,
to work as a youth pastor and radio
host. Cecil, on the other hand, left for
the States to work at a dental office in
San Diego.”
During her time in San Diego, Cecil
thought about becoming a missionary.
“I always wondered if I was capable of
leaving my family and friends to go on
the mission field,” said Cecil.
Despite her reservations, Cecil
began to investigate mission agencies.
And she soon connected with FEBC,
which felt like the right fit. “My qualms
about working in a foreign land were
put to rest,” Cecil explained. “God
sent me to the Philippines, the country
I’d been raised in.”
But less than two
years later, her department stopped
production, and Cecil was suddenly
without a job.
“I felt really torn,” Cecil shared.
“Why would God bring me all the way
back to the Philippines, then close the
department?” Unexpected Reunion
At that time, a couple of friends
left to vacation on Samar and Cecil joined
them. While she was in Samar, Cecil ran
into Mar. “it was great to see him again
after so many years,” Cecil said. Mar,
too, was delighted with the reunion!
While in the area, Cecil visited
FEBC’s radio station, DWAS, in Legaspi
City. “I learned of their need for
additional personnel,” Cecil said. I knew in my heart that this
was where God wanted me. My friends
thought I was crazy, but I’ve learned
that when God rearranges your life, it’s
best to go along with His plan.”
And His plan worked out just
right! Mar and Cecil were married on
December 28, 2000. They now work
as radio producers and announcers for
FEBC at DWAS, where Mar also serves as staff chaplain.
Additionally, Mar and Cecil
are involved in counseling and youth
ministry and have been actively planting
a church in Tabaco City. Ever since two
devastating typhoons ripped through
their region in 2006, killing thousands
and leaving many homeless, they’ve
been helping people rebuild their lives.
“Friendship evangelism is an important
part of our ministry,” Mar explained.
“We’re thrilled to see survivors open
their hearts to the Lord in response to
getting help in time of need.”
A pastor once told Mar and Cecil,
“God has moved ‘heaven and earth’ to
bring you two together,” and the young
couple definitely agree. But besides the gift of love, God also brought them together to touch the
lives of others. On a daily basis their ministries intersect,
just as their lives did when Cecil said “yes” to God’s
reassignment!
