New Radio Station for Millions of Tribal People

Tuesday February 6th, 2007

IMAGINE YOU'RE A TRAVELING PASTOR in northern Philippines with a heart for the three to four million spirit-worshipping people in the region. Language isn’t a barrier, but distance is--a trip to one village requires a 10-hour car ride, followed by 1-2 hours in a jeepney, 2 hours in a canoe, and finally a long hike.

How, you wonder, can all the other villages in these mountains learn about Jesus? And if they accept Christ, how will they grow in their faith?

FEBC and Local Churches Work Together

These questions have troubled pastors and missionaries in the Cagayan Valley in northern Philippines for years. Eager to more effectively share the Good News, a group of churches and mission organizations met with FEBC-Philippines a couple of years ago to develop a plan.

Together they developed the Cagayan Valley Missionary Radio Project, designed to share Christ’s love with every ethnic group in the Philippines. FEBC will build and operate a Christian radio station and local churches will produce the programs.

Programs will be broadcast in 4 tribal languages and eventually increase to 14. When it’s fully operational, the radio station will offer Christian programming to more people groups than any FEBC-Philippines station, including 3 groups who were once headhunters.

The Next Steps

The new Station Manager, Emmanuel Perez, has joined the staff and is preparing for the daily operations scheduled to begin this spring. Architectural plans for the studio are in the final stages of production, and construction will begin as soon as funds become available. Our first on-air broadcast is scheduled for this summer.

Seeking to Reach All People

The Cagayan Valley Missionary Radio Project is another step toward “making disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19). We’re eager to bring the Good News to millions of unreached Filipinos in their native language, so that they, too, will know the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
