God Using 'Project Isa' to Change Lives in Pakistan

Friday October 30th, 2009

Nathan* turned the dial on his radio, quietly searching for a program while his family slept.

Suddenly, a voice speaking his language came in loud and clear, and he stopped to listen. He was attracted by the kind voice and he found himself tuning in every night, intrigued by the remarkable news he was hearing for the first time: forgiveness… eternal life… a loving God.

Nathan’s curiosity was piqued, and he wrote to the station several times. Who was this God who personally loved him? And how could he receive this gift of eternal life?

Ministry partners on the ground in Pakistan discreetly visited him to help answer his questions about Christ and the gift of salvation. Over time, Nathan grew in his faith and was baptized. And even though he was persecuted and his family told him never to speak of Jesus in his village again, Nathan boldly shared his faith with others.

Eventually, Nathan traveled to other areas of Pakistan where he continued to share the Good News. He studied the Bible through the Theological Education by Extension program and attended Bible school. He later went on staff with a Christian ministry.

Nathan’s Dilemma
The day finally came, however, when Nathan’s family wanted him to marry. As was typical in his culture, they had promised Nathan to a girl years earlier, an engagement that was considered official.

So Nathan was faced with a dilemma. Should he violate God’s commandment to honor his parents by refusing the woman they had chosen for him? Or should he obey God’s instructions not to be unequally yoked to an unbeliever?

After much prayer and counsel Nathan believed he should honor his parents, but was very open with his family and the girl’s family. “I am a committed follower of Jesus Christ,” he said, “and I will remain so.” Everyone agreed to the marriage on these terms.

A Christ-like Life
Over the years, Nathan patiently witnessed to his wife through word and deed. He also asked his Christian friends to pray for her. After many years of marriage and raising children together, Nathan’s wife recently accepted Christ as her Savior! She was baptized and is joyously sharing her faith with her children and family. Many who know Nathan and his wife are praying God will use this couple to change lives in Pakistan where Islam is dominant.

From a single broadcast in an indigenous language, one life was changed for eternity! And that person shared with another… and another… until many lives heard the Good News.

FEBC and our sister organization, Feba, are committed to sharing the gospel around the world, often in countries and regions where it is not welcome. Through such initiatives as Project Isa, we are reaching listeners who might otherwise never hear the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Thank you for making all of this possible. God used the gifts and prayers from friends like you to touch Nathan’s heart long ago when he first heard the news that changed his life. And today, He is still using your support and commitment to reach the world for Christ!
