Stop Talking About Jesus

Thursday March 12th, 2009
SEPTEMBER 21, 1992 seemed like any other day at FEBC’s radio station in the southern Philippines.

When FEBC broadcaster Gregorio Hapalla took his place inside the studio, his thoughts were probably focused on the message he was about to deliver to his predominantly Muslim audience.

Just a few weeks earlier, Gregorio had received death threats from Muslim extremists. Their message was clear: “Stop talking about Jesus… or else.”

But Gregorio felt strongly that his daily program was changing lives. It was gaining popularity among listeners, offering them new hope and sound principles for living. And the powerful FEBC transmitter reached far beyond the borders of his country.

So, despite the threat, Gregorio decided to continue the broadcasts.

Deadly Attack

At around 1:30 p.m. on September 21, two men wielding .45 caliber pistols stormed the recording booth and fired at the unsuspecting occupants.

Gregorio and his radio guest were killed instantly while a third man, FEBC’s chief technician, died later in the hospital.

The attackers identified themselves as members of an Islamic extremist group.

Gregorio's Legacy

In many nations around our world today, there are Muslims who are committed to their faith. But they don't know how much Christ loves them.

And these are some of the people FEBC hopes to reach through Project Isa, our new initiative to reach out to Muslim-dominant populations around the world.

Through Project Isa, our staff in the Philippines plans to continue Gregorio Hapalla’s legacy. We have found that when Muslims hear how much God loves them, they're eager to know more!
